The State Construction and Legislation Committee recommended that the lower house adopt in the first reading a bill on depriving drivers of their licenses for driving a car with hidden state registration plates. The bill, submitted for consideration in May, proposes to ban offenders from driving for a year and a half. Currently, you can also lose your license for this, but only for 1-3 months.

The committee believes that the proposed amendments to the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offences “will have a positive effect on ensuring road safety.” Therefore, the State Duma is asked to adopt it in the first reading.

Currently, concealing numbers, including with the help of a special device, is punishable under Article 12.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. This is punishable by a fine of five thousand rubles or deprivation of rights for a period of one to three months.

In addition to toughening the punishment, the project proposes to single out the violation as a separate offence, so that it is no longer equated to driving with incorrectly installed license plates or without them. It also proposes to increase the responsibility for driving without license plates: also to deprive the driver of the right to drive for one and a half years, but in the case of a repeated violation.

In June, a bill was introduced to the State Duma that provides for punishment for dangerous driving. Despite the vagueness of the term, the government has already supported it, and they want to punish reckless drivers with a fine of up to five thousand rubles and deprivation of rights for 1-3 months.
