The press service of the FAW-Volkswagen branch shared official photos of the version for China and showed journalists all the model’s configurations. The new Tiguan will receive two prefixes: L and Pro. The first will indicate an increase in the distance between the axles by 11 centimeters, the second will indicate a generation change, because the “regular” Volkswagen Tiguan L in China is not going to retire!

On the outside, the Chinese Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro generally repeats the “global” model, if you leave out the stretched wheelbase and slightly increased rear overhang. However, complete unification did not happen: the aerodynamic body kit is designed a little differently, although the difference is in the touches. But there are more differences in the cabin: the key innovation is an 11.6-inch touchscreen in front of the front passenger.

You can watch movies or play video games on a separate display, but otherwise the infotainment complex of the Chinese version is the same as the European top version. So far, three trim levels have been promised, and the equipment is rich: multi-contour seats with ten-speed massage, a panoramic roof, a projection screen, matrix LED headlights, adaptive cruise control with auto braking and lane control.

Since the Chinese Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro only comes with five seats, the rear is very spacious, and the trunk volume is an impressive 471 liters. There will be no small engines in the Middle Kingdom yet: only the proven 2.0-liter unit in boost versions (186 horsepower, 320 Nm) or (220 horsepower and 350 Nm). The gearbox is a 7-speed “robot”, all-wheel drive is available only to the most powerful and expensive option.

Prices for the new Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro will be announced at the Beijing Motor Show, but it is already clear: the crossover will be more expensive than 220 thousand yuan (30 thousand dollars). In the future, the “Chinese” will probably have more affordable versions, as well as hybrid options that require recharging from an outlet.
