“Tarantas News” about battery voltage as an indicator of its performance

The battery is a vital element for any vehicle, providing power to the engine and the entire electrical system. One of the key parameters characterizing its condition is tension.

First of all, notes the automotive expert of the Tarantas News portal, a visual inspection of the battery is necessary for damage to the case, electrolyte leaks and reliability of contacts. Only after making sure that everything is in order with the battery externally can you proceed to measuring the voltage using a voltmeter or multimeter. With the engine off, a fully charged battery should produce about 12.6 volts. If the voltage drops below 12.4 volts, this is a sign of partial discharge. A level of less than 12 volts indicates a deep discharge and battery malfunction.

In turn, while the engine is running, the voltage of a working battery with a normally functioning generator and regulator should be in the range from 13.7 to 14.7 volts (when checked at idle speed). This is enough to recharge the battery and provide energy to on-board systems. Regular voltage monitoring allows you to identify problems in advance with both the battery itself and the generator.
