Introduced in the fall of 2021, the Mercedes-AMG SL roadster, as expected, turned into a hardtop coupe – as part of Monterey Car Week-2023, the premiere of the second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT sports car took place, which actually turned into a modification of an open model. At the same time, the car became more practical and better adapted for everyday use, and also received new technical capabilities. The wheelbase of the novelty has become larger, which made it possible to implement a four-seater saloon with a landing formula of “2 + 2”.

The coupe received the radiator grille characteristic of AMG models, darkened optics with a recognizable pattern and an active rear spoiler traditional for sports cars. 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch infotainment screen similar to the Mercedes-AMG SL, but the MBUX infotainment display is fixed because the coupe doesn’t need to be repositioned to avoid glare when the roof is down. The sports car received special menu items AMG Performance and AMG Track Pace.

In terms of interior design, the novelty completely repeats the original model, apart from two additional seats. The rear seats are suitable for passengers up to 1.5 meters tall and, if necessary, can be folded down to increase the volume of the trunk, the door of which is equipped with an electric drive. Optional AMG Performance seats with integrated head restraints and seat back vents are available, while the AMG Performance multifunction steering wheel is standard.

Technically, the GT is identical to the SL – in the range of engines at the start of sales there will be only a 4.0-liter petrol turbocharged V8 in two power options. It is stated that for the coupe the engine was equipped with a new oil pan, the intercooler was moved to a new location and active crankcase ventilation was added. The control program has also changed and the boost pressure has been increased. The base will be the Mercedes-AMG GT 55 with a capacity of 476 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, acceleration from standstill takes 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 295 kilometers per hour.

The flagship Mercedes-AMG GT 63 already has 585 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque (acceleration from standstill in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 315 kilometers per hour). Both engines are mated to a 9-speed AMG Speedshift MCT 9G automatic transmission with wet multi-plate clutch and AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive with intelligent torque distribution front and rear.
