As Carscoops reports, the blue oval is already thinking about a new generation of electric pickup truck, which has been on the market since 2021. At the start of sales, the model caused a stir, but then demand for it began to fall, and this led to the fact that the automaker had to significantly reduce production volumes. Apparently, because of this, Ford is in a hurry to develop the next generation: the future pickup truck will “move” to another platform and abandon the Lightning prefix in the name.

According to Ford CFO John Lawler, cited by the publication, Lightning for the electric version of the F-150 has not been confirmed. The model will be called either simply F-150, or will acquire a new name. As for the platform, Ford is developing two modular architectures at once for the “green” Model e division – the project is supervised by Tesla native Doug Fields, who was once responsible for the launch of Model 3.

It is expected that changing the platform will reduce production costs and, as a consequence, the final price for the consumer. In the meantime, the F-150 Lightning is sold in the United States at a price of $49,995 (4.6 million rubles at today’s exchange rate).

Earlier it became known that in 2024, the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center plant in Dearborn, where the F-150 Lightning is produced, will produce 1.6 thousand pickups per week instead of the planned 3.3 thousand. The company did not rule out further adjustments to production volumes “depending on consumer demand.”

It is worth noting that the assembly of the model is organized in a non-standard way: the enterprise does not have an assembly line in its traditional sense; instead, unmanned transport platforms are used that transport cars from one assembly site to another. Ford spent $950 million to build the “plant within a plant.”
