In 2024, Ford chalked up another record – the American automaker broke the world record for the fastest quarter-mile run in an all-wheel drive vehicle. The standout achievement was achieved by the Super Cobra Jet 1800, a specially designed electric car styled after the latest generation Ford Mustang. In addition, the new model was a development of the record-breaking electric car of 2021 – then the model had 1,400 “horses” in its arsenal, but by 2024 the power was increased to 1,800 forces.

Three years ago, in the NHRA National Hot Rod Association, the Cobra Jet EV Demonstrator ran the classic quarter-mile drag racing course in 8.128 seconds at 171.97 miles per hour. The powertrain, featuring new control software and a state-of-the-art lightweight battery system, was developed by Ford Performance in collaboration with MLe Racecars.

There are four PN250DZR inverters and two double pairs of DS-250-115 electric motors, which are optimized for maximum starting efficiency. A commitment to innovation led to a clean slate redesign of the battery system, resulting in a 30 percent increase in power and a 40 percent reduction in weight.

In addition, the suspension was retuned, which improved the driving habits of the electric car in a straight line. Ultimately, at the National Hot Rod Association Winter Nationals, the Super Cobra Jet 1800 ran the quarter mile in 7.759 seconds at 180.14 miles (289.9 kilometers) per hour.
