In the context of the current economic crisis and a sharp drop in sales of new cars in Russia, the prospects for cheap family cars look very vague. The Lada Granta, which until recently was positioned as a budget family car for the masses, will soon cease to exist and disappear from car dealerships. But the demand for this kind of cars in the country still remains at a fairly high level, which could become an incentive for automakers to develop a new model for this price segment.
Such a model could well be the VAZ-2104 “Four” 2024, a spacious and roomy station wagon, the renderings of which were created by the automotive designer of the navtotrasse.ru portal. This car could become a purely VAZ car, since AvtoVAZ has all the necessary resources and competencies to develop such a car. The plant has a modern platform, the necessary units, as well as well-established supply channels for components.
The Four was initially conceived as the simplest and most affordable car for the average Russian family. Under the hood it will have a well-proven 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of up to 90 horsepower paired with a classic “mechanics”; it was decided not to use automatic transmission in order to reduce the final cost of the car for the buyer to 1 million rubles.
The basic equipment of the new VAZ will be quite ascetic. It will include only the most necessary options: ABS, ESP from a Russian manufacturer, a radio with the ability to connect a smartphone, driver and passenger airbags, air conditioning. VAZ-2104 “Four” 2024 may well see the light of day next year.
