The Lada Vesta became the 10 millionth anniversary car with an emergency response system in case of an accident. AvtoVAZ recalls that eight years ago Vesta was the first production car in Russia and in the world, the basic equipment of which included an ERA-GLONASS device for calling emergency services. Since 2017, the SOS button connected to ERA-GLONASS has been a mandatory part of the design of new cars and those imported into the country.

According to statistics, currently the number of emergency calls transmitted through the ERA-GLONASS system is approaching 350 thousand. When the system is activated, rescuers receive the exact coordinates of a car involved in an accident in an average of 19 seconds. This allows us to comply with the “golden hour” rule in disaster medicine: assistance provided within an hour after an accident increases the possibility of saving injured people five times and minimizes the development of dangerous complications in injuries.

In 80 percent of accidents with vehicles equipped with ERA-GLONASS, emergency notification of rescuers occurred automatically. The system received more than half of the messages from territories more than 30 kilometers away from large populated areas. In nine out of ten cases, calls were not duplicated from other sources, such as witnesses’ cell phones.

As for Vesta, AvtoVAZ included in this model the possibility of installing ERA-GLONASS at the design stage. And now all cars of the brand are equipped with a “panic button”. Moreover, it is not always used in case of road accidents: approximately five percent of calls are reports from drivers about various incidents along the way, for example, if they noticed that someone in a passing car felt ill, saw a forest fire, or witnessed another emergency.
