Most often, fatalities on the Moscow Ring Road result from collisions with stationary vehicles, according to the State Traffic Inspectorate’s Telegram channel. Most of the cars that are hit are stopped on the road due to breakdowns and minor accidents. At the same time, the number of victims of accidents on the Moscow Ring Road is decreasing year after year, the traffic police noted.

Over the past nine months of 2023, 421 traffic accidents were registered on the Moscow Ring Road. 491 people were injured, which is 22.8 percent less than in the same period in 2022. The number of people killed in accidents decreased by 20 percent year on year, to 24 people.

The traffic police noted that they monitor the situation on the capital’s highway around the clock. If “dangerous stops” are identified, broken cars are removed from the road together with city services.

The Moscow Ring Road was the most dangerous highway in the capital in 2022. It accounted for 4.24 percent of all incidents. Second place went to Mira Avenue with many turns and exits, third place went to Warsaw Highway in the south of the capital.

Meanwhile, the government is working to improve road safety. By December 1, 2023, the authorities, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Avtodor, will propose a new plan: it will include improving the quality of rural roads, developing intelligent transport systems, new traffic direction signs and other measures.
