As the Otkritie Auto survey showed, every fourth motorist has firmly decided to buy a “green” car, and this desire is especially strong among young people aged 18 to 25 years. 40 percent of respondents do not want to change to the electric train, including 45 percent of people over 55 years of age and 48 percent of residents of the North Caucasus. Another 35 percent have not yet decided on their attitude towards electric vehicles.

Slightly more than a quarter (26 percent) of those who are ready to buy an electric car are considering buying a Russian model. Moreover, women are more inclined to domestic products than men.

As for the cost, the majority – 82 percent – are not ready to pay more than two million rubles for an electric car. 17 percent will pay from two to five million, another percent – from five to 10. At the same time, 60 percent of respondents do not know about preferential loans for electric cars.

The main reason why Russians do not want to buy a “green” car is the lack of necessary infrastructure (29 percent). Another quarter noted the high cost, 12 percent – a weak battery, four percent – a small range of cars and distrust of the manufacturer. 24 percent are satisfied with cars with traditional internal combustion engines.

Analysts believe that the popularity of electric vehicles will continue to grow. At the end of nine months of 2022, the share of their registrations was 0.4 percent, and in 2023 – already 1.3 percent. The leaders are Volkswagen, Evolute, Zeekr, Voyah and Tesla.

As of mid-2023, there were 32.7 thousand electric cars and hybrids in Russia, and 78.6 percent of them were “pure” electric cars. The most common in the domestic vehicle fleet are Nissan, Tesla, Mitsubishi, Porsche and Volkswagen.
