So far, only Granta is produced at the facilities of local partner AvtoVAZ, but by the end of the year Vesta and Niva will join it. As RIA Novosti reports with reference to the automaker, this is the first project to produce Lada in Azerbaijan in the company’s history. The cars are assembled from imported components: by the end of 2024, the site will produce 1.5 thousand Lada cars, and in the next few years, production will be increased to 4-5 thousand cars per year.

“Currently, at one of the local production sites, a receiving area for vehicle kits, an assembly shop and a parking lot for storing finished cars have been organized,” AvtoVAZ head Maxim Sokolov told reporters. — We are starting with Granta and plan to expand the range of local production with the Niva family (Legend and Travel) by the end of 2024; test samples have already been collected and are undergoing a quality audit. Later the Vesta family will join them.”

AvtoVAZ expects that the launch of production in Azerbaijan will help Lada return its local market share to pre-crisis levels.

Over the past year, 3,738 cars were produced in Azerbaijan, which is 82.4 percent more than in 2022. And in the first two months of 2024, 574 passenger cars rolled off the assembly lines of local factories – a quarter more than in the same period in 2023.

Returning to AvtoVAZ, the Russian auto giant was negotiating the production of Lada cars in Algeria, and also discussed the possibility of exporting cars to Ethiopia, Ghana, Morocco, South Africa and Nigeria.
