Production of the flagship and two SUVs with more environmentally friendly and safe engines will start in December this year, TASS reports, citing the words of the company’s president, Maxim Sokolov. He said this on the sidelines of the Transport of Russia forum. In addition, in the same December, Nivam is planned to return the anti-lock braking system (ABS).
According to Sokolov, AvoVAZ will resume production of Euro-5 engines for all Lada Vestas and both Lada Nivas during December 2023. At the same time, Niva Travel should return such a motor at the end of November, according to insiders.
Last year, due to sanctions and problems with components, Russian factories were temporarily allowed to neglect the environment and safety. Therefore, AvtoVAZ reduced the class of its engines to Euro-2. The first model to which Euro-5 returned was the budget Granta: the family began to be equipped with such units in September 2023.
In addition to the Togliatti manufacturer, Euro-5 is going to produce UAZ again with new control units. True, this will happen only next year. Today, there are no UAZ vehicles with this eco-class available, although they are still listed on the company’s website.
