According to the Izvestia publication, after a sharp reduction in imports at the end of this summer, Russian customs officers are recording an increase in the supply of cars from the Land of the Rising Sun. However, this time our country is supplied with small cars from popular manufacturers that are not subject to the anti-Russian sanctions policy.

From January to October 2023, Vladivostok customs cleared 198,000 Japanese cars. Over the ten months of last year, border guards processed 142,000 cars from the Land of the Rising Sun. However, while in 2022 the majority of imported vehicles were crossovers, large sedans and minivans, now compact cars are in greatest demand.

According to experts, the emphasis of buyers and dealers has shifted towards small cars whose engine capacity does not exceed 1.9 liters. Honda, Suzuki, as well as Toyota and Nissan have plenty of similar models that are not subject to anti-Russian sanctions.

At the end of September, car exports from Japan to Russia fell by almost 43 percent. The sharp decrease in import volumes was affected by the sanctions imposed by the leadership of the Land of the Rising Sun.
