The Ferrari 250 GTO coupe has set another auction record. The Berlinetta with chassis number “3765 LM” was sold for almost $52 million. This is the only example of the 1962 model owned by the Scuderia Ferrari racing team and originally equipped with a 4.0 liter engine. The car was in the hands of one owner for a long time, and it won the Best of Show award at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.

Sotheby’s auction house has found a buyer for a unique 1962 Ferrari 330 LM / 250 GTO. An unknown collector paid a record amount for the car for public auction – $51,705,000, which corresponds to 4.7 billion rubles. The fact is that the Berlinetta with a Scaglietti body is the only GTO Tipo 1962 intended for the Scuderia Ferrari stable. The car participated in the 1000 km Nürburgring, 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Sicilian Hill Climb. And for the last 38 years it has been in the hands of one owner.

The main feature of the Ferrari 330 LM / 250 GTO (also called 330 GTO) was the 4.0-liter V12 Colombo engine from the 400 Superamerica, tuned to produce 400 horsepower and 326 Nm of torque. However, back in 1963, a V12 3.0 (310 hp) from 250 P was installed on this copy, and the four-speed “mechanics” was changed to a five-speed one. Detailed specifications, including starting specifications, are contained in the three original build sheets that the buyer received with the car.

The previous auction record also belonged to the Ferrari 250 GTO – $48,405,000. But both are far from the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé, which has become an inflation driver in the classic car market in 2022. A two-door from the museum’s collection of the German mark was sold privately through Sotheby’s for $143 million, which is now equivalent to 13.1 billion rubles.
