GAC unveils the Era hydrogen fuel cell concept car

The Chinese brand brought a new hybrid minivan to the Guangzhou Auto Show [Trumpchi E8](https://motor.ru/news/gac-vans-view-17-07-2023.htm), which will go on sale before the end of the year, and another unusual car – the Era show car with a futuristic body, transformable interior , a huge display and a hydrogen-powered power plant. The iconic model embodies a vision of the future, GAC notes, but whether it will be reborn into a production car remains unknown.

Designers from the Advanced Design studio in Los Angeles and Milan worked on the exterior of the 5.4-meter GAC Era. The panel in the front part of the body combines narrow optics with sensors and cameras, the doors are frameless hinged with “recessed” handles, but the “chopped off” rear part is especially interesting, which does not allow the body to be classified as a specific type. For the sake of the environment, some elements were made from recycled sea plastic and algae.

In the interior, the designers tried to avoid sharp corners. In front of the driver and front passenger is a huge display that spans the entire width of the front panel, and there is another screen on the center console. By the way, it can be turned into a table and the front seats can be expanded, turning the interior into a kind of living room. Eco-friendly materials are also used in the interior – for example, leatherette made from mycelium and mycelium.

The Era is built on the “GAC Multi-Energy Platform” and features a hydrogen fuel cell setup with motors on the rear axle. In total, they produce 540 horsepower, and on a full tank the car should travel less than 800 kilometers.

The Era “goes beyond a simple car and represents a visionary statement about the future of new energy vehicle design,” Fan Zhang, vice president of GAC’s Research and Development Center, described the concept.
