He will take part in the 2024 Dakar Rally. In addition to Honda and Toyota, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha had a hand in its development, which together are exploring hydrogen technologies for “small mobility”. The HySE-X1 buggy is powered by a liquid-cooled 1.0 turbo-four converted to hydrogen – such a unit has already been mentioned in the context of Lexus. The engine output is not disclosed, as are the dynamic characteristics of the car itself. However, the dimensions are known: the length of HySE-X1 is 3.5 meters, the width is two meters, and the height is 1.7 meters with a weight of approximately one and a half tons. The rendering shows a reinforced suspension, wheels with off-road tires and a two-seat cabin.

The name HySE-X1 refers to the association of Japanese manufacturers, which includes Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha and Toyota – Hydrogen Small Mobility & Engine Technology Research Association.

HySE-X1 will take part in the Mission 1000 race of the Dakar Rally, which is called a testing laboratory for new power units. It will take place in Saudi Arabia in January 2024. Before this, you can see the HySE-X1 live at the Japan Mobility Show, but a slow-moving prototype will be brought there.

A week ago, Honda workers in the United States presented the Acura Integra racing car, which they built in their spare time. The sports car with a roll cage, corresponding to the Limited 2WD class, will take part in the Lake Superior Performance Rally, where it will compete with the Subaru BRZ, Ford Fiesta ST and Lexus IS.
