Dmitry Vorona, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, advised to revive the legendary Soviet brand. According to the senator, the revived model should receive the status of a “modern people’s car.” The official has no doubt that the iconic car will be in demand among Russians.

Dmitry Vorona said that the production of Zaporozhets needs to be established in a full cycle in order to avoid problems with engines that Soviet engineers experienced. At the same time, the senator did not specify whether the car will be built on the basis of a Chinese model, or whether the engineers will take the famous Soviet car as a basis, which will later be modified.

In addition, the official said that the country needs to restore the former Kommunar automobile plant, at whose facilities mass production of Zaporozhets was launched in the early 1960s. Subsequently, enterprises were created on the territory of Zaporozhye that ensured uninterrupted production of cars. In particular, specialists in the region produced Tavria.

At the beginning of August, it was proposed in Russia to revive the Volga automobile brand. The initiative was then taken by State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.
