According to Oleg Maslyakov, production director of the Moskvich plant, serial production and sales of the model with index 5 will begin in the first half of 2024. In a conversation with RIA Novosti, Maslyakov clarified that we are talking about a mid-size crossover. A pre-production prototype of the future Moskvich model was shown back in the summer of this year, so there are already details about it, including the power plant.

The Moskvich 5 will be based on the Chinese JAC Sehol X6. The crossover, which will be larger than the Moskvich 3, will be offered with 1.5-liter turbo engines producing 149 and 184 horsepower and two transmissions to choose from – a CVT or a six-speed robot. The model has exclusively front-wheel drive.

In 2024, another model will appear on the Moskvich conveyor – a D-class crossover, which will be called Moskvich 8. Maslyakov also mentioned it, noting that its launch will take place closer to the end of the year. It is expected that Moskvich 8 will be a slightly redesigned JAC X7 with a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 150 horsepower. It will have to compete with Chery Tiggo 8.

In addition to Moskvich 5 and Moskvich 8, next year the brand’s model line may also be replenished with an electric version of the Moskvich 6 liftback. However, as of the end of October, the final decision on this model had not yet been made – Alexander Migal, director of the Moskvich plant, told reporters about this.

Since the resumption of assembly of Moskvich cars in November 2022, 31 thousand cars have rolled off the plant’s assembly line, 27 thousand of which are with a traditional internal combustion engine, and another four thousand are Moskvich 3e electric crossovers.
