How to identify non-original motor oil when purchasing and not run into a fake

The problem of counterfeiting automobile parts and consumables, in particular motor oils, is very acute in Russia today. Ordinary car owners often do not have the knowledge to distinguish original products from counterfeits. This increases the risk of purchasing goods of questionable quality.

According to experts, counterfeit oil can be suspected by poor-quality packaging that does not correspond to the declared characteristics and a suspiciously low price. Such oil usually has a reduced viscosity, a high content of impurities and instability of properties. Using low-quality oil leads to accelerated engine wear. Already in the first minutes of operation, increased noise is heard, since the additives do not lubricate the rubbing parts well. The oil also “burns out” quickly, forming varnish deposits in the oil channels.

For the average buyer, it is extremely difficult to verify the authenticity of the oil. In appearance, the counterfeit is practically indistinguishable from the original. The best way is to ask the seller for a certificate of an official distributor of this brand. If it is not there, most likely it is a fake. It is also worth paying attention to the integrity of the packaging, the presence of the necessary markings and certificates. An abnormally low price should raise suspicion.
