Nissan stormed the 2024 Beijing Auto Show with four new concept vehicles: the Epoch sedan and Epic SUV feature all-electric powertrains, while the Evo sedan and Era SUV are plug-in hybrids.

The automaker also confirmed that it will introduce five new Nissan NEV (EV + PHEV) models in China by 2026, one more than previously announced.

Let’s start with the Nissan Epoch Concept. It’s an electric sedan aimed at “urban and commuter enthusiasts.” The model is similar to the Tesla Model 3 competitor, with a sleek body with minimalist trim and modern split LED headlights. Epoch uses artificial intelligence technologies, including a virtual assistant that recognizes emotions.

The Nissan Epic Concept is an electric SUV designed for the adventurous but city dweller. An electric car the size of a Qashqai offers autonomous driving in the city and on the highway. It can also work as a mobile power source, making it suitable for camping. The front panel is occupied by three screens. There is a perfume dispenser and comfortable seats with cushions for rear passengers.

Another sedan was the Nissan Evo Concept. Although it has no relation to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rally car, it is equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and is intended for family trips. The design is more aggressive, with a massive nose, a taut beltline and stylish taillights.

We also see a minimalistic interior with a separate Tesla-like infotainment display and a tall center console. The equipment includes a virtual assistant with advanced artificial intelligence.

Finally, the Nissan Era Concept is a plug-in hybrid crossover for “young business people who consider their car a second home.” The profile, rear end and interior design seem to be largely similar to the Epic Concept, but the Era Concept has a different front end design. The PHEV powertrain is combined with Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system and active air suspension.

All four concepts will go into production by 2026 along with other models from the NEV (New Energy Vehicle) series. Dongfeng will be responsible for production at its local factories, reinforcing Nissan’s new motto for the region: “In China, for China.”

As part of its efforts to improve its competitiveness in the Chinese market, Nissan will launch a new campaign called “Excited by Ni”. Additionally, the automaker will form partnerships with “leading companies” to develop artificial intelligence-based systems and services.

As part of The Arc’s business plan, Nissan’s goal is to sell 200,000 more vehicles per year in China by 2026, which would help increase global sales by 1 million units annually.
