The T-Roc, which turned out to be the most popular Volkswagen crossover in the first half of 2023, is assembled at a plant in Portugal. According to Automotive News, citing a letter received by 5,000 workers at the Portuguese plant, T-Roc production will have to be suspended for several weeks in September due to a lack of components – not enough engine parts.

In 2022, Volkswagen produced over 231,000 T-Rocs. The model is a success in the market, and in the first half of this year it became the best-selling among all other Volkswagen cars in Europe. The second generation of the T-Roc is already on the way – this crossover will be one of the last with an internal combustion engine, along with the new Tiguan. Its premiere is expected in 2024.

In the meantime, Volkswagen is producing the first generation T-Roc in Portugal, albeit intermittently – in the first half of September, the assembly line of the model will go idle for several weeks due to the lack of components. Automotive News suggests that the shortage of parts will inevitably affect other Volkswagen vehicles that are built on the MQB platform.

It is worth noting that the open version of the T-Roc Cabrio is not produced in Portugal, but in Germany. Whether the problem with components will affect the release of the cross-cabriolet is still unknown.

At the end of July, it was reported that Volkswagen was reducing the production of electric cars due to low sales. We are talking about the ID.4 and ID.7, which are produced in Emden, Germany: the demand for them turned out to be almost a third lower than the originally planned production figures.
