On the eve of the Dakar rally marathon in Saudi Arabia, Red Bull arranged a comparison of two classes of racing equipment. An off-road rally prototype based on a Toyota Hilux pickup truck and a Sherco enduro motorcycle driven by professional racers competed in one rally. The task for the pilots was set simple – to overcome the winding route to the mountain peak as quickly as possible and try to surpass their opponent at a distance.

Prepared by the Gazoo Racing division, the car is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 petrol turbo engine producing 400 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque from the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR, combined with a sequential gearbox and all-wheel drive.

South African pilot Giniel de Villiers got behind the wheel of a racing pickup truck. The racer’s rival was his compatriot Wade Young, one of the most experienced enduro racers, who, in the saddle of a Sherco motorcycle with a 300 cc engine, challenged four-wheeled technology.

The organizers of the unusual duel used Sani Pass, the highest mountain pass in South Africa on the border with Lesotho, as a racing track. At a distance of 4 kilometers, the athletes faced 21 turns and a rise to a height of 2865 meters above sea level. Naturally, we are talking about an unprepared mountain road without a hard surface, which is quite common for rally-raid vehicles.
