A representative of the American brand said that the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine has been retained so that the electrified version does not lose the power and durability needed when towing. In addition, the V6 engine is more balanced and less noisy: with this “stroke extension” the pickup has gained in acoustic comfort. However, the issue of fuel consumption remains open.

RAM surprised us with the updated 1500 family. Firstly, the V8 Hemi engine was removed from the range, and secondly, the Ramcharger sequential hybrid retained the gluttonous naturally aspirated V6, although usually small-displacement engines are chosen for “stroke extenders” not connected to wheels.

The American brand did not disclose data on fuel consumption and harmful emissions, but a RAM representative tried to explain the logic of the engineers. First, RAM is confident that this concept will offer segment-leading towing and payload capabilities. This was achieved, among other things, thanks to the new STLA Frame platform for full-size frame cars. Secondly, the Pentastar V6 displacement engine will be able to charge the battery faster under load: this is important for transporting cargo and towing.

American experts suggest that only a hybrid with a naturally aspirated V6 will be far from economical: gasoline consumption will be at least 20 miles per gallon (11.8 liters per 100 kilometers). But the peak output of the Ramcharger is 672 horsepower and 834 Nm of torque, the range is 1,110 kilometers, the load capacity is 1.2 tons, and the maximum towed trailer weight is 6.4 tons.
