As Gazeta.Ru reports with reference to the press service of Rosstandart, the agency is initiating an inspection of cars of South Korean brands after reporting a record service campaign in the United States. There, millions of cars that can catch fire are under recall. Hyundai and Kia no longer operate in Russia, and therefore Rosstandart will contact representatives of the manufacturers.

Rosstandart is preparing a notice of product non-compliance with the requirements of technical regulations, which will be sent to official representatives of Hyundai and Kia. Organizations will have to verify the information and report to the department. If it is confirmed, it will be necessary to organize a recall agreed with Rosstandart.

At the end of September, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a record service campaign that affected 3.37 million Hyundai, Genesis and Kia vehicles. The reason was the risk of fire: a brake fluid leak in the ABS module can cause a short circuit.

Owners of 23 models of Korean brands sold from 2010 to 2017 will have to visit service centers. Until the problems are fixed, NHTSA recommends that car owners do not park in garages or near buildings.

In June, it was reported that NHTSA could initiate an even larger recall of Kia, affecting four million vehicles. It turned out that Kia that came off production lines from 2000 to 2016 were equipped with explosive airbags from ARC Automotive.
