Russian dealers want to sue Renault. The companies RTDS and BN-Motors filed claims in arbitration courts against the French company, which left the Russian market last year. They demand 760 million rubles – this is the amount the losses incurred due to the early termination of contracts are estimated at. As Vedomosti writes, dealers want to create a precedent that other companies that have suffered losses due to the departure of Renault can then use.

Former Russian Renault dealer RTDS filed a lawsuit with the Moscow Arbitration Court on October 25, demanding to pay 534 million rubles – about 150 million for each car dealership, of which the company had four. BN-Motors has two claims for a total amount of 228 million rubles.

According to the plaintiffs, there are at least 10 other dealerships that also want to sue Renault. At the time of the departure of the French auto giant, 152 of its dealers were operating in Russia. Renault left the country after the start of the CBO, divesting its assets but with a buy-back option within six years.

In 2022, Renault sold 39.6 thousand cars in Russia. The company’s net loss from the cessation of operations in the country amounted to about 2.3 billion euros.

These are not the first claims that abandoned Russian dealers have made against Renault. In May 2022, the Russian Association of Automobile Dealers (ROAD) offered the auto giant to compensate 8.5 billion rubles for losses out of court. Later, the amount increased to 14.2 billion, but the French stopped communicating in the summer of that year.
