The currently unnamed model is planned to be produced at a plant in Illinois, where the Jeep Cherokee was previously produced. In February of this year, the plant was put into idle mode and 1.2 thousand people were laid off. However, after negotiations with the United Auto Workers (UAW) trade union, the Stellantis concern decided to resume the assembly of cars at this site, and a certain mid-size pickup truck will be put on the assembly line 1 reports this with reference to the UAW.
During negotiations, the automaker promised the UAW to provide benefits to laid-off workers at the Illinois plant: they would re-sign documents with continued pay and regain access to health insurance – and this would happen even before restarting production.
