Drag racing is not the most popular form of motorsport in Russia. One of the reasons may be the almost complete absence of Russian racing cars, which is why watching races may not be very interesting for connoisseurs of the domestic automobile industry.

The RDRC Technology racing team, led by racer Dmitry Samorukov, decided to correct this and produce an “import-substituted” ProMods class dragster with a body from the GAZ-24 Volga.

The guys tried to make the dragster as similar as possible to a Soviet car, deliberately using the station wagon format to better hide the huge rear wheels.

As a basis, we took one of the most popular chassis from the Ford Mustang ProMods, on top of which we put a shell reminiscent of the GAZ-24-02 Volga.

Herculean work was done to create the body, using 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies, as well as good old-fashioned prototyping on a 1:1 scale.

The 3,500-horsepower engine required no less labor, in which a variety of ideas from Russian engineers were implemented, which in theory should have made it more powerful and reliable.

Why in theory? The fact is that we don’t yet know how effective the dragster turned out to be: it didn’t start in either the second or third stages of the RDRC this year.

We recommend watching several videos about how the GAZ 24 Volga ProMods was created:
