The company has crossed the million mark in eight years of presence on the market as an independent brand, but it is unknown which car became the anniversary car. Genesis’ only difference is that since its official debut in late 2015 and as of August 2023, its global sales totaled 1,008,804 units.

More than half of the declared million cars – namely 690.17 thousand – Genesis sold in its native South Korea, and the company sold 318.6 thousand steel cars in foreign markets, the largest of which is the USA (more than 225 thousand units). As Motor1.com notes, it took the brand more than five years to sell half a million cars, and it sold the next half million much faster – in just two years.

In Russia, sales and production of Genesis cars were curtailed after the start of the SVO. At the same time, neither Genesis nor the parent company Hyundai have yet officially announced their departure from the Russian market.

The brand’s bestseller today is the G80 sedan. Genesis entered the SUV segment (crossovers and SUVs) relatively recently, in 2020, and its first all-terrain model was the GV80. The GV70 went on sale at the end of that year, and the all-electric GV60 joined the lineup in 2021.

Earlier it became known that Genesis could retire its very first independent model – the G70 sedan. Insiders claim that the project to develop a new generation G70, expected in 2025-2026, has been stopped due to low demand. Sales of the sports sedan have declined, as Genesis customers have recently preferred crossovers. Well, besides, the immediate future of the brand is not connected with passenger cars: the electrified GV70 and GV80 crossovers, the GV80 cross-coupe, as well as the full-size GV90 all-terrain vehicle are on the way.

We can’t wait: new cars are not for us
