Icon has turned an old Chevrolet Suburban into a 1,000-horsepower restomod. The 1970 Reformer project cost the customer a million dollars, and that amount included not only a custom chassis, but also an engine made by Nelson Racing Engines. Icon’s artists are inspired by modernist architecture, in particular the work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Therefore, the appearance of the car turned out to be quite minimalistic.

The Icon company began with the restoration and modification of the Ford Bronco and Toyota Land Cruiser, and a few years ago began building full-fledged restomods. The new 1970 Reformer is one of them. It turned out through a deep modernization of the sixth generation Chevrolet Suburban. The craftsmen from Icon were inspired by the works of the German modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, so the look of the restomod turned out to be moderately minimalistic.

Not only the body, which changed from a three-door to a four-door, was redesigned, but also the front panel, steering wheel and almost the entire decor. The emphasis was on attention to detail. For example, the radiator grille is machined from a single billet of aluminum. The seats are padded with memory foam and upholstered in Italian leather. The main functions, including the audio system, are controlled not from the head unit, but by voice and buttons on the interior mirror.

The chassis for the restomod was manufactured by Art Morrison. The car received a Dana 60 rear axle made of high-strength cast iron, a rear wheel steering mechanism, Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers and HRE Wheels. Under the hood is an Alien LS 7.0 biturbo engine from Nelson Racing Engines with a power of 1014 horsepower and 1220 Nm of torque, mated to a 4L85-E four-speed automatic transmission.
