According to Autostat, from January to November 2023, almost a million cars were delivered to the country, namely 992.2 thousand units. More than half of them – 63 percent or 628.6 thousand cars – are new. The flow of new cars mainly comes from China, which accounts for 82.7 percent of total imports. Cars also come to Russia from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, but these countries account for 11.1 and 2.4 percent, respectively.

If we compare the volume of deliveries of new cars in 2023 with last year, then at the end of 11 months they increased by 3.9 times. At the same time, 81.8 thousand cars were imported into Russia in November, which is five thousand less than the record figure for October 2023. Then the highest monthly import rate over the past three years was recorded – 86.8 thousand cars.

As for the flow of used cars, they occupy 37 percent of the import structure. Since the beginning of 2023, 363.6 thousand of them have been imported, and this is 1.6 times more than in January-November 2022. In November, 21.1 thousand used cars were delivered to the country, and this is only slightly less than the figure for the previous month (22 thousand units). The record figure was reached in July 2023, when 51.3 thousand cars crossed the border. After this, there was a decline, caused by an increase in recycling rates and changes in import rules.

Used cars are still imported mainly from Japan. They account for 60.1 percent of total imports, even though Japan has imposed restrictions on the supply of cars to Russia. Also, used cars come to us from Belarus (15.4 percent) and South Korea (7.3 percent).
