A representative of Sollers confirmed to Gazeta.Ru that until the beginning of the third quarter, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant was limited in production volumes due to the transition to new suppliers, and now dealers have “some shortage of assortment” for “Patriots” and “Pickup trucks” . UAZ plans to fill the shortage of SUVs by the end of 2023: dealers expect a shipment of cars in December.

According to insiders, the shortage of “Patriot” and “Pickup” is associated not only with the transition to new suppliers. The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant is fulfilling a government order: a large batch of cars has been recalled from dealers to be sent to new territories. Another factor is the production of UAZ vehicles for the needs of the Ministry of Defense. The military department is a priority, and vehicles are not shipped to dealers.

In the near future, we will have to come to terms with the shortage of UAZ Pickup, since most of the vehicles are produced for the needs of the army, according to Gazeta.Ru sources. Sollers denies this: the holding’s press service insists that “UAZ fully copes with the fulfillment of all incoming government orders and, at the same time, monthly ships cars to the retail network based on requests from dealers.”

UAZ is not the only Russian automaker that is losing market share due to the need to fulfill government orders. Earlier, KamAZ stated that they consider the production of all-wheel drive vehicles for government needs to be the “main task” and “civic duty”.
