Dealers will sell the last fuel Golf by the end of this year, and starting next year the local lineup will consist of only electric vehicles. Now these are the ID.3 hatchback, ID.4 and ID.5 crossovers, ID.7 liftback and ID.Buzz van, including the ID.Buzz Cargo.

The Norwegian company Møller Mobility Group, which is the country’s largest importer of Volkswagen cars, announced that it will stop supplying cars with internal combustion engines. The last Golf will be delivered to the customer in December, and starting next year the local line-up will consist of only electric vehicles. This will not affect Comtrans yet. Although after the introduction of a complete ban on the sale of cars with internal combustion engines in 2025, everything may change for him too.

The decision is quite expected, since Norway is the country with the largest share of EVs in the structure of new car sales. For example, in September, electric cars occupied 87 percent of the market, so that out of 10,342 cars sold, only 283 were equipped with gasoline or diesel engines. However, the penetration depth of EVs in Norway depends greatly on location: in Oslo it is 30-40 percent, and in the northernmost county it is less than five.

Norway has been pursuing a policy of a smooth transition to electric mobility since 1990. In 2016, there were 100 thousand electric cars in the country. In 2022 there were already half a million.

The decrease in sales of cars with internal combustion engines logically led to a decrease in fuel consumption. Also in September, sales of petrol and diesel were down 9 percent compared to the same period in 2022, according to Statistics Norway. But where there is a fall, there will also be growth. In the case of Norway, a decrease in fuel consumption on the domestic market will result in an increase in oil and gas exports. Its share in the country’s foreign trade is 73 percent. In absolute numbers, this is more than 114 billion euros, which goes, among other things, to support “green” initiatives.
