Voyah, a premium subsidiary of Dongfeng, familiar to Russians, has prepared a new hybrid version of the Free crossover. It differs from other versions in the composition of the power plant, which will include two motors – an internal combustion engine and an electric motor on the rear axle. It is expected that such a crossover will be able to travel up to 318 kilometers on electricity alone, which claims a record among plug-in hybrids from China.

Voyah Free under the symbol 318 will retain the 1.5-liter gasoline “four”. However, the new version will have only one electric motor – 272 horsepower (410 Nm), driving the rear axle. This crossover does not have a front engine producing 218 horsepower.

The “trick” of a less powerful crossover should be the battery. The current hybrid is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 39.2 kilowatt-hours, allowing it to travel up to 210 kilometers on the Chinese CTLC cycle. It’s likely that the available Free will get a larger battery, since simply reducing weight by eliminating the front electric motor is clearly not enough to increase the range by 108 kilometers.
