The general director of the plant, Alexey Spirin, told TASS that airbags are planned to be returned only by the beginning of 2025. By this time, in Ulyanovsk, on the territory of the UAZ industrial park, they intend to organize the production of passive safety systems. We are talking about the production of airbags, steering column, steering wheel and seat belts with 100% localization.

Sollers will organize the new production jointly with an unnamed Chinese partner. The agreement implies that the facilities will be launched before 2026, but UAZ is determined to begin assembly earlier – at the beginning of 2025. Obviously, UAZ will not purchase airbags from the side: the plant will wait for domestic airbags.

This means that for about two and a half years UAZs will be produced without airbags at all. In the future, they plan to install steering wheels, seat belts and airbags made in Ulyanovsk not only on cars of the Sollers holding. The company is counting on demand from GAZ Group, Moskvich and factories producing Chinese cars in Russia.

In 2024, UAZ all-terrain vehicles will undergo major modernization. “Patriot” is waiting for another restyling, during which the appearance will change, a diesel engine and a new gearbox will be added. Profi will be the first to use a Chinese heavy fuel engine, but the exact timing is unknown.
