Thus, the circuit will be reduced by more than half. It will not be possible to host serious motorsport events on the shortened ring: the remaining section of the route will not even be suitable for stages of the Russian circuit racing series. At the same time, areas for drifting and karting will be opened on the territory of the complex.
The administration of the Federal Territory of Sirius decided to shorten the length of the route. They decided that it was necessary to open popular and attractive areas for free access on the territory of the circuit. Of the previous 5850 meters, only 2300 meters of the road surface will remain on a permanent basis, where the administration will organize racing programs for tourists, and will also open drifting and karting zones.
The reconstruction of the circuit provides for the connection of the exits from the first and twelfth turns. After modernization, pedestrians will be able to freely get to Medalnaya Square, the Bolshoi Ice Palace and the Sirius Arena. At the same time, there are no plans to remove the road surface of the autodrome yet, so formally the large circle of the track will continue to exist.
According to the head of the Sirius administration, Dmitry Plishkin, the new configuration of the track will make it a base for the development of unmanned technologies and competitions among autonomous cars. It is emphasized that the country’s main race track can be returned to its original form at any time.
In July last year, a new circuit was launched in Russia, which will be suitable for Formula 1. At the same time, the organizers of the “Royal Races” had already terminated the agreement with the promoter of the Russian Grand Prix.
