The successor to the Pagoda, the R107 generation Mercedes-Benz SL, can hardly be called particularly elegant, but it was with him that the history of the SL model in its current status began. The roadster received V8 engines, but this did not become a sports car – it directed the vector towards luxurious individual cars for the driver. And it worked: the American market accepted the “one hundred and seventh” with a bang. We still think of the SL as the car of movie stars and millionaires, not major street racers. By the way, the R107 model lasted in production from 1971 to 1989! Imagine what an abyss lies between the elegant “Pagoda” and the great [R129](https://motor.ru/reports/avtokultura-2022.htm#14), which confidently entered the 21st century with 12-cylinder engines and several AMG versions. So, all this abyss was occupied by the “one hundred and seventh” – and this is worth a lot.
