British YouTube channel Carwow staged a drag race between the Red Bull RB7 Formula 1 car and the Bugatti Veyron and Porsche 918 Spyder hypercars. The unusual race is designed to illustrate how modern road cars can compete with professional racing equipment, the potential of which is limited by the strict technical regulations of the World Championship. The result was a very clear confrontation between the two worlds of the automotive industry.

Formula 1 was represented in the race by the Red Bull RB8, which in 2012 brought German Sebastian Vettel his third world championship title. Equipped with a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine from Renault with a power of 800 horsepower – 700 kilograms of weight! — the car was driven by New Zealander Liam Lawson. The World Championship car beats its rivals only in terms of weight, since road models are heavier, but more powerful.

The 918 Spyder super hybrid was developed in the early 2010s, but still remains Porsche’s most powerful production model. The hybrid power plant – a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 and an electric motor for the front axle – develops a total of 887 horsepower and 1,280 Nm of torque and works in conjunction with a 7-speed robotic gearbox.

The all-wheel drive hybrid weighs 1674 kilograms. The all-wheel drive Bugatti Veyron, weighing 1888 kilograms, is equipped with an 8.0-liter W16 gasoline engine with four turbines. The power unit with 1001 horsepower and 1250 Nm is combined with a 7-speed robotic gearbox. And although this is not the latest car, it still remains one of the fastest and most dynamic.
