In November, Lada Granta without airbags began rolling off the assembly line in Tolyatti. The reason is a shortage of components. AvtoVAZ did not have time to prepare for the sanctions imposed by the United States and arrange supplies of airbags, writes the insider public Avtograd News on the social network Vkontakte with reference to the first vice president for strategy and technical development of the company, Evgeniy Shmelev.

It is possible that a similar solution will be applied to the flagship Lada Vesta, so as not to stop the conveyor.

This is not the first time Lada Granta has lost its airbags. In 2022, due to the supply crisis, a simplified design was released, devoid of “complex” electronics and airbags. In the fall of the same year, AvtoVAZ announced that it had managed to solve the problem with the availability of components and increased prices. Granta was again equipped with a driver’s airbag, and in top trim levels – with a front airbag for the front passenger.

Insiders already reported a new shortage of pillows in October 2023. In the middle of last month, the auto giant produced Granta and Niva without airbags for at least two days. It was alleged that incomplete cars were stored in a parking lot in Togliatti, where they were waiting for parts to arrive: dozens of such cars were photographed.

Meanwhile, AvtoVAZ raised prices for the entire model range. The exceptions were the basic Granta Standard (sedan and liftback), Niva Legend Classic, as well as Vesta Comfort (sedan), the rest increased in price by 64-106 thousand rubles. Later, the company’s press service emphasized that the initial Grant for 699,900 rubles remains in service and maintains the same price.
