At the Guangzhou Motor Show, they showed the GL8 Century single-volume car in the exclusive Propitious Cloud version (named after the Order of Auspicious Clouds, a state award of China). The interior of the Buick minivan was done by couturier Guo Pei: an ornament appeared on the door cards, the floor was specially decorated, hand-embroidered pillows were added, and unique embossing was added on the chairs.

There will not be a second Buick GL8 Century with this design, and in total the SAIC-GM plant will produce five minivans of the “designer” series: each will be distinguished by an interior in the national Chinese style. Price to match: 1,089,900 yuan (151 thousand dollars): almost 60% more expensive than the original four-seater top version (from 690 thousand yuan or 96 thousand dollars).

In terms of technology, no revelations: the Buick GL8 Century comes only with front-wheel drive, a 9-speed automatic transmission, a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine (237 hp, 350 Nm) and a moderate-hybrid 48-volt add-on. Five special minivans still have a partition in the cabin with a TV and a touchscreen remote control for seat settings. Both seats can be folded out almost horizontally, and taking into account the footrests, the total length of the bed will be two meters!

For the Buick brand, the Chinese market is the main one: twelve different models are sold in the Middle Kingdom, while only three remain in the American range. It’s not surprising that the brand’s new products are also aimed at China: Buick’s flagship sedan is sold only in this market.
