Under the name Chery NEV, models powered by alternative energy sources – hybrids and electric vehicles – will be sold on the Russian market. A separate dealer network will be created for the new sub-brand, which will include 70 showrooms throughout the country. The search for partners has already started; applications for the sale of Chery NEV will be accepted until November 27. The company does not specify which electric cars and hybrids will be included in the Chery NEV line, but information about some of them is already available.

Today, there are two hybrids in the Chery model line in Russia – the Tiggo 7 Pro Plug-in Hybrid and the pre-restyling Tiggo 8 Pro e+, which will soon be replaced by an updated version with the Plug-in Hybrid prefix. For both crossovers, the installation consists of a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine and two electric motors, and for them the power reserve is stated at 1000 kilometers. Hybrids based on Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro will apparently be included in the new Chery NEV division.

Chery electric cars have not yet reached the Russian market – so far the company is only assessing their prospects. According to the Chinese Cars portal, we are talking about the eQ1 battery hatchback and the eQ7 crossover. The first is a compact city car, which in China is available with electric motors of 41 and 75 horsepower, and whose range varies depending on the battery capacity from 251 to 408 kilometers on the CLTC cycle. The second is an SUV slightly smaller than the Tiggo 8 Pro, equipped with a 211-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle. It travels 412-512 kilometers on a single battery charge (53.9 or 67.1 kilowatt-hours).

According to the electrification strategy pursued by Chery, by 2025 the share of vehicles powered by alternative energy sources in the company’s total sales should reach 20-25 percent. The company is not yet committed to complete electrification of its lineup.
