The light commercial vehicle BYD T5 debuted in the Middle Kingdom – it is a hybrid designed for intra-city transportation. The automaker claims that the truck’s autonomy is 1,000 kilometers, and its payload is 300-400 kilograms more than its hybrid competitors. BYD T5 gasoline consumption in the urban cycle is only 9.2 liters per 100 kilometers.

Under the hood of the truck is a 1.5 turbo engine with 41 percent thermal efficiency. The gasoline power unit is not connected to the wheels: the rear axle is driven by a 204-horsepower electric motor. Power is supplied through a battery with a capacity of 18.3 kilowatt-hours. The internal combustion engine operates as a generator, but if necessary, the battery can be charged from a “supercharger” from 20% to 80% in less than thirty minutes.

The total weight of BYD T5 is 4495 kilograms. The truck has an excellent drag coefficient Cx of 0.42. The model is based on a high-strength frame, and the cabin is designed according to European standards. The initial configuration includes a rear view camera, electric power steering, body stabilization system, electromechanical parking brake, telematics complex and air conditioning.

The price of the hybrid truck has not been specified, but there is no doubt that the BYD T5 series will still be included. Gasoline-electric commercial models could be an alternative to diesel trucks, which are about to be “outlawed” in the centers of some megacities.
