“RG” about the situation with Chinese cars in the Russian car market

At the end of November 2023, only three leading Chinese brands showed significant sales growth in Russia. In general, the current situation has forced automakers from the Middle Kingdom to lower prices and return trade-in discounts in order to stimulate demand.

In absolute numbers, Haval cars sold out better than others in November (14.4 thousand, +12%). The most popular model was the Haval Jolion crossover (6.1 thousand units). Thanks to discounts, this car remains one of the few affordable crossovers with a price tag below 2 million. The Haval Dargo SUV and the new Haval M6 also sold well. For Chery, the situation is more complicated due to the large number of its own sub-brands. Although this brought growth by attracting different groups of buyers, sales of Chery itself slowed down.

Geely also keeps two popular crossovers afloat – Monjaro and Coolray. At the same time, Monjaro was often imported gray from Kyrgyzstan, and the updated Coolray greatly increased in price. At the same time, the Jetour brand has virtually no chance of catching up with the leaders. SWM also had a failed start, despite the expectations of the Russians. Other brands of the Kaliningrad plant also have low sales. As a result, the Chinese are forced to reduce prices and return discounts to stimulate demand.
