According to CarNewsChina, the appearance of the new XPeng model, the X9 electric minivan, was indeed inspired by the space shuttle. The new product received an advanced autopilot and a non-standard feature for the MPV segment – steering rear wheels. In technical terms, the X9 is unified with the flagship G9 crossover: the model will be offered with a single-engine unit and a dual-engine unit with a power of more than 500 horsepower.

The XPeng X9 has an unusual body that references the space shuttle: a short hood, a glass line with additional window sections at the A- and C-pillars, and a “floating” roof. But the model’s competitive advantage will not even be its appearance, but the steering rear wheels – other classmates do not have such an option. The rear wheels can turn in the same direction as the front wheels or in the opposite direction for better maneuverability and greater stability.

There will be two three-row options to choose from—six and seven seats. The base X9 has mono-wheel drive and a single electric motor with a capacity of 313 horsepower, while the more expensive version has all-wheel drive and two electric motors that together develop over 500 horsepower.

The minivan has two batteries to choose from with a capacity of 84.5 and 101.5 kilowatt-hours: the range, depending on the type of drive and the capacity of the traction battery, is 610, 640 or 702 kilometers. The Xpeng electrical system operates at 800 volts and supports charging at up to 480 kilowatts.

The new product has a proprietary NGP autopilot, which is not inferior to Tesla’s – in addition to sensors and radars, the system is based on highly detailed map data.

The full premiere of the XPeng X9 will take place at the Guangzhou Auto Show, which starts on November 1. At that time, the company will probably open pre-orders.
