Volvo showed the predecessor model of the newest minivan EM90

Volvo decided to clearly demonstrate the evolution of its minivans by comparing the new electric EM90 and its 70-year-old predecessor, the Duett model, in an advertising campaign.

At first glance, these cars from different eras look very similar: they have similar body proportions and layout. However, under the common “shell” there are machines of completely different technical levels. The legendary Duett appeared in 1953 and became the first minivan in Volvo history. It was positioned as a universal car, combining work and family qualities. The Duett was produced in different versions – from a passenger station wagon to a delivery van. And thanks to a successful concept, it sold more than 100,000 copies, marking the beginning of a whole family of station wagons from the Swedish brand.

EM90 is a new generation minivan. This is a fully electric car with two motors producing 544 horsepower. It is based on the Chinese model Zeekr 009. Its traction battery is expected to provide a CLTC range of up to 820 km. Thus, despite its external similarities, the EM90 demonstrates enormous technological progress over 70 years – from a simple station wagon with an internal combustion engine to a high-tech electric vehicle.
