Every experienced driver knows that there is more to a car’s fuse box than meets the eye. Automobile manufacturers invest significant efforts in improving vehicle safety. It would seem that this should make life easier for car enthusiasts, but the reality may turn out to be completely different.

Take, for example, the Renault Kaptur, a front-wheel drive crossover that for a long time did not have a button to forcibly disable the stabilization system. This led to a peculiar situation where the high-riding SUV was helplessly stuck in the mud or snow, its electronic systems seemingly stifling its ability to move towards that coveted rural destination. Scenarios like this are still common on the roads today. However, the resourceful owners of these cars found a clever solution: they removed fuse No. 36. It is noteworthy that it is located not under the hood, but inside the cabin, near the driver’s left knee.

As soon as this fuse is removed, a barrage of error messages lights up on the instrument panel and the speedometer reading disappears. However, now the liberated car crawls over rough terrain like a real SUV. After such off-road exploits, it is advisable to reinsert the fuse, because it is unsafe to drive on ordinary asphalt in this mode. This experience should serve as a lesson for owners of such crossovers.
