The winner of the Pikes Peak hill climb competition was Ford. Their F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, driven by Romain Dumas, covered the 20 km distance in 8 minutes 53.553 seconds.

This made SuperTruck the fastest of the 61 entries, with Ford finishing more than 10 seconds faster than Christian Merli in the 2024 Wolf GB08 (9:04.454). Rounding out the top three fastest drivers is Dani Sordo on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA, who covered the distance in 9:30.852.

However, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck was slower than last year’s SuperVan 4.2, which clocked 8:47.682. The result is not surprising, however, as the SuperTruck experienced a “technical problem” and had to come to a complete stop midway.

Dumas “completely rebooted” the pickup and returned it to working order. This is good news, but this problem added about 26 seconds to his time.

The problem must have been frustrating, but Dumas took it in stride, saying:

“Everything about this competition is a challenge because it’s like no other type of racing: you only get one chance. We ran into a problem early on, but that only made me more determined to make up for lost time in the rest of the race.”

Ford reported that their SuperTruck actually produced 1,600 hp. (1,193 kW), rather than the 1,400 hp originally reported, making it more than three times more powerful than a standard electric pickup.
