In China, at the Chengdu Motor Show, the “socket” version of the second generation GS8 debuted, which was awarded a separate index. The novelty of GAC was presented in a special version of the Traveler, which features extended off-road decor, a trunk on the fifth door, as well as practical unpainted inserts on the fenders and bumpers. The main technical innovation is a gasoline-electric power plant of the PHEV type.

GAC ES9 is close in body and interior to the recently arrived in Russia GS8. Changed except that the grille and wheels. The remaining differences are the prerogative of the Traveler special version, which will soon appear on regular non-hybrid and “socketless” hybrid versions. From the inside without fundamental innovations: the interior can be designed for six or seven riders.

The GAC company did not report on the hybrid technique, but the filling can be judged by indirect signs. It seems that the ES9 was unified with the E9 minivan: this means that under the hood is a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine that works in conjunction with an electric motor and a 25.6 kilowatt-hour traction battery.

The expected total output of the system is 373 horsepower and 630 Nm. The cruising range without activation of the internal combustion engine will be about 110 kilometers, and fuel consumption in the WLTP combined cycle will not exceed six liters per 100 kilometers. The hybrid will not have an alternative to front-wheel drive, although regular GAC GS8s come with four-wheel drive.

In China, sales of the GAC ES9 will start before the end of the year. The hybrid will have two trim levels: regular and the aforementioned Traveler. Prices have not yet been announced, but it is confirmed that the novelty will be cheaper than 300,000 yuan. The top version of the GAC GS8 with a Toyota HEV-type hybrid power plant costs 270,000 yuan.
