The Japanese publication BestCarWeb insists: deliveries of the updated model will begin in the spring of 2024. Insiders have confirmed that the GR Yaris will receive a more powerful turbo engine from the GR Corolla, and in addition to the 6-speed manual, customers will be able to order an 8-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Spot external improvements have also been announced.

The development of the two-pedal Toyota GR Yaris is no secret: last spring, a prototype of a hot hatch for rallying was revealed, on which a promising transmission was tested. Japanese top managers also hinted at a more powerful version of the three-door: it was obvious that the “junior” hot hatch would receive a 1.6 turbo engine in a boost version with 304 horsepower and 400 Nm.

Japanese journalists believe that changes in the exterior will come down to a more aggressive aerodynamic body kit. In addition, a virtual dashboard will appear in the cabin, the suspension and brakes will be improved, and body rigidity will be increased. The upgrade will lead to an increase in the starting price: now in Japan the GR Yaris costs from 3.96 million yen, but after the upgrade, the “entry ticket” to the world of hot hatches will cost five million yen.

The presentation of the Toyota GR Yaris of the second series may take place in the fall of 2023, the start of production is allegedly scheduled for January 2024. Time will tell whether the insider will be confirmed, but three years will soon pass since the premiere of the original hot hatch.
