According to estimates by the Automarketer agency, cited by the Vedomosti newspaper, next year the volume of the Russian car market will be 1.48 million cars, 1.2 million of which will be Chinese. Chery has the most ambitious plans: it promises Russians 200 thousand cars, and its sub-brands Exeed and Omoda will account for 60 thousand cars sold each. In addition, Changan expects to sell 180 thousand cars, and Haval – 150 thousand.

However, experts and automotive market participants believe that the plans of Chinese automakers are overstated and do not take into account the current situation on the market. For example, the 150 thousand cars declared by Havale is the maximum design capacity of the brand’s plant in the Tula region, which it has not yet reached. Experts surveyed believe that companies have already reached peak sales, so surpassing this result in 2024 will not be easy.

In January-November 2023, just under a million new passenger cars were sold in Russia – namely 939,254 units, which is 64.9 percent more than 11 months of last year. Everything is heading towards the fact that by the end of 2023 the car market will exceed the 1 million car mark. Thus, the forecast for next year is several hundred thousand higher than estimated sales in 2023.

The domestic Lada remains in first place in terms of sales volumes in 2023, which has sold 155 thousand new cars since January and now holds a share of almost 31.17 percent of the market. Chery is in second place with 105.6 thousand cars (its share is 11.24 percent), and Haval closes the top three (almost 97 thousand cars sold in 11 months and a share of 10.26 percent).
