In a conversation with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, an AvtoVAZ representative said that production of a modification of the model with a Chinese continuously variable transmission will begin at the turn of 2023-2024. At the same time, the company still does not name the Chinese company that shared the gearbox with AvtoVAZ. There is also no information about the timing of the launch of the Granta assembly with a CVT – this project is “in the works, but nothing can be said about the dates yet.”

Previously, several assumptions were voiced about which Chinese company provided AvtoVAZ with a CVT. At first they said that it was a JAC, and then they were talking not only about the gearbox, but also about the engine, which is also installed on the Moskvich 3. Later, insiders stated that they actually tested JAC units on Lada cars, but in the end the Russian automaker chose a CVT from another Chinese company, WanLiYang (WLY).

In September, information appeared that the WanLiYang CVT18 continuously variable transmission was being installed on prototypes of the Lada Vesta NG, which were then sent for testing.

But even earlier, the Chinese CVT received the prototype Lada Aura (this name was given to the extended version of Vesta for government employees), which debuted this summer. A 1.8-liter VAZ engine was paired with a continuously variable transmission.

Returning to the regular Vesta, for now it is presented on the market only with “mechanics”, which works in conjunction with a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 90 or 106 horsepower. The model also has a more powerful version called Sportline with the same 1.6 engine, boosted to 118 horsepower.
